Kazakhstan President: In 2017 the green zone of Astana to reach Borovoe

NEW YORK. September 26. KAZINFORM - On September 24, Kazakhstan’s Foreign Minister Erlan Idrissov attended opening of the General Political Debates and High-Level Forum on Sustainable Development of the 68th session of the UN General Assembly, the MFA web-site informs.
On the sidelines of the General Assembly session, Erlan Idrissov held a meeting with the Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, and discussed a wide range of bilateral cooperation issues. Minister Idrissov emphasized the great potential for trade and economic cooperation between the two countries and invited Qatar to participate in investment projects in Kazakhstan’s agriculture, livestock, oil and gas, mining, infrastructure and transport.
The Foreign Minister also met with the U.S. First Deputy Secretary of State William Burns, and discussed the bilateral cooperation, global and regional security, as well as other developments of the international agenda. They touched on the Commission on Scientific and Technological Cooperation between Kazakhstan and the U.S., which has been launched earlier this year.
On behalf of the U.S. Administration, William Burns thanked Kazakhstan for its efforts in assisting normalization of life in Afghanistan and the negotiations on Iran’s nuclear program.
Minister Idrissov discussed bilateral relations with his foreign colleagues –Mahamoud Ali Youssouf of Djibouti, Carolyn Rodrigues-Birkett of Guyana, Ioannis Kasoulides of Cyprus, Augustine Kpehe Ngafuan of Liberia, José Badia of Monaco, Othman Jerandi of Tunisia, as well as with the President of the 67th UN General Assembly Vuk Jeremic.
At the meeting with Monaco Foreign Minister José Badia, Minister Idrissov discussed the upcoming visit of President Nursultan Nazarbayev to Monaco, and expressed interest in technology transfer and involvement of the Monegasque partners in innovative reforms in Kazakhstan. It particularly relates to the Monegasque companies in development, environment, renewable energy, tourism, pharmaceuticals and IT.
A key topic of the bilateral talks was promotion of Kazakhstan’s candidacy for the UN Security Council non-permanent membership for 2017-2018, which is one of the most important goals of Kazakhstan’s foreign policy. Kazakhstan’s activity at the UN Security Council and participation in the important decision-making processes in security field enables equal participation in the world political issues at the global and regional levels, in compliance with national interests.
Kazakhstan’s experience in strengthening security and stability, including those obtained during its chairmanship at the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation could give an extra impetus to the UN efforts to dynamically and adequately respond to the modern threats and challenges. Kazakhstan intends to bring new ideas and approaches to the UN processes with purpose of making effective decisions in food, water, energy, and nuclear security issues.
