Kazakhstan President: In 2017 the green zone of Astana to reach Borovoe

ASTANA. KAZINFORM On March 4, 2014, Kazakhstan Deputy Foreign Minister Yerzhan Ashikbayev took part in the plenary high-level segment session of the Conference on Disarmament (CD).
In his address to the High segment participants, Yerzhan Ashikbayev drew attention to four priority areas for Kazakhstan in the framework of the CD: universal nuclear disarmament, development and signing the treaty banning the production of fissile material for military purposes, prevention of an arms race in outer space and negative security assurances to non-nuclear countries, the press service of the Kazakh Foreign Ministry said.

In addition Yerzhan Ashikbayev emphasized that recognition of the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty by all countries is one of the most important conditions for nuclear disarmament. In this context, it was noted that the adoption of Kazakhstan resolution commemorating August 29 as the International Day against Nuclear Tests by the UN General Assembly in 2009, is fully consistent with the objectives of the treaty.

Kazakhstan Deputy Foreign Minister also briefed the delegation of the CD on the ATOM project, which aims to mobilize global support for the fight against the nuclear threat.

On the same day Yerzhan Ashikbayev carried out bilateral meetings with Navanethem Pillay, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Michael Møller, Acting Director General of the UN office at Geneva, Ian Dusík, Director and Regional Representative of the UN Environment for Europe, William Lacy Swing, Director General of the International Organization for Migration, Sally Fegan -Wyles, the UN Executive Director of the Training and Research Institute, as well as with Sri Lanka Foreign Minister Gamini Lakshman Peiris, during which they discussed the state and prospects of bilateral cooperation.
