ALMATY. KAZINFORM - Foreign Minister Yerlan Idrissov has participated in an offsite meeting of Permanent Representatives to the UN group of landlocked developing countries.
The meeting has been carried out today in the city of Almaty.

According to Yerlan Idrissov, the purpose of the event is to discuss the implementation of the Almaty Programme of Action, which was adopted in 2003 at the International Conference of Ministers of landlocked developing countries.
"Kazakhstan is the largest landlocked state in the world. In spite of this, our country has achieved significant progress towards sustainable development. Landlocked status of Kazakhstan is not an obstacle for the county's development", he said.

According to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, the construction of bridges, roads, and providing communication are the challenges that Kazakhstan is pulling off.

"Within the years of independence Kazakhstan has built modern roads with asphalt cover, laid rail tracks and pipelines. It continues to develop the port in Aktau which will become the western gate of Kazakhstan. Kazakhstan and China are building a dry port on the border of the two states. It will become the regional transport and trade harbor", said Y.Idrissov.
